A Tribute to Materialism
Here's everything that I want for Christmas.
1: A TiVo -- possibly the finest invention ever created, it records shows for you automatically, lets you skip commercials, and pause live TV. It does, stupidly enough, cost 13 bucks a month or a one-time 300 dollar fee. Ouch.
2: A graphics card -- a suitably advanced one, capable of playing half-life 2.
3: Obviously, Half-Life 2 itself. Nothing further need be said.
4: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
5: Lord of the Rings: The Third Age -- RPG + LOTR = awesome.
6: Shadow Hearts: Covenant -- turn-based goodness plus a judgment ring, whatever that turns out to be.
7: A subscription to PC gamer magazine -- don't ask why I haven't signed up for this already because I don't know. This allows me to covet things more easily.
8: A Gameboy Advance SP and Metroid: Zero Mission.
9: 3 books: Chainfire, and The Dark Tower volumes 6 and 7.
All this adds up to a ridiculous 620 bucks. Your mission, loyal reader(s), is to help me decide which of these fine 9 items I want the most. But in the end, will any of these things make me happy? Aren't material things just distractions from what is really important in life? Whoa! What am I saying?? Of COURSE these things would make me happy.
Final note: My friends and I are starting a website called "Pretzels for Bush," in which we will attempt to get people to buy pretzels and donate them to George W. Bush for consumption, and hopefully choking to death on. We will also be selling "Pretzels for Bush" t-shirts, soon to be available for purchase. These will feature a pretzel and some catchy slogan, such as "Pretzels for Bush: Because he deserves a break."

The video games have got to be where it's at. The TiVo is a great idea, but I think I'd save it for when you have a house and kids (so you can do the traditional Parental-style, "This is a mommy and daddy show" and pause the TV until they leave, haha). As much as my SP rules, I'd have to say, unless you're playing a lot in dark lecture halls, keep that at the bottom, seeing as you already have a GBA. The books or the video games would be my pick ;). Now, it's time for me to pour more of my life in to FFX...

Yeah, the videogames and books will win. Although I did find some SP's on ebay for like 40 or 50 bucks, I just don't use it enough to justify it. I also forgot the special extended edition of return of the king.

So anonymous it is since I'm to lazy to register something and put a name on my comments... but then again maybe typing all this shit about not having a name might just take more time and effort than registering to get a name would be in the first place... I suppose I could also just add it to my comment, but that would just ruin the time spent trying to figure out who the hell wrote this.
And on to the actual point(s).
1. TiVo - At college???? what are you crazy??? not very useful... unless you're really into watching that much TV and not doing work or practicing or physical activity or whatever it is you do with your time.
2. A graphics card - Well I'd have to say that choice is a pretty good one assuming price isn't too big a issue
3.Half-Life 2 - now why on earth would you ask for half-life 2 before asking for a video card... the card should be around 5-6 times the price of half-life, so you job as a college student is to minimize your expenses... i.e. ask for the card then buy half-life 2 yourself
4. GTA: San Andreas - also a good choice, not only does GTA appear to be a great party game at your house, but you could also annoy your mommy with all the sensless violence and attract a large population of guys to your house(if your into that sort of thing) to eat your food and drink your drinks.
5. LOTR: The Third Age - Keep trying for the award of biggest LOTR nerd because you're still quite a bit shy of the goal yet... and oh yeah It would probably be a good game and a valid choice.
6. Shadow Hearts: Covenant - really??? never heard of it... it's all up to you
7. PC Gamer - ah yes a magazine full of stuff that you want to go and spend all of your money on... oh and it has some cool articles, but it is also pretty low as far as price goes, you could afford it if it was important enough
8. Gameboy Advance SP - do you really have enough opportunity to use that much... I mean more than your GBA? I don't think the GBASP is quite worth the time, but maybe since you're a better judge than me
9. 3 Books - I dunno, maybe I'll read them and let you know if they are worth it???? P.S. - yeah right that would take me forever
so
10. Yeah it's up to you right¿

Hehe, I knew it was mike before I got to the end of the first paragraph. But yeah..It's most likely going to be a graphics card and THEN all of the other stuff...just because so much of it is not that expensive. As for the books, they will of course be read eventually...I have like 9 books t read right now, but I'll have to agree about the GBA SP. As cool as it is, I don't use my regular old GBA enough to justify 80 bucks on a new version of it. If I traveled a lot or something it could be great. As for the TiVo, that's more of a commercial-skipping thing and a "I don't have much time to watch TV so I want to watch what I WANT to watch" type of thing.

oh yeah and thats a good point for the TiVo, but if you get a tv tuner card for your new graphics card I know Asus has a nice DVR program to do the same thing for you, although it doesn't know the schedule you could still set it up to routinely record whatever show you might want to watch
