Supersized America?

After watching the film "Supersize Me," I have a question. Whose fault is it that you're fat? It's your fault, isn't it? I mean, you made the decision to eat at McDonald's and other fast food places and not exercise, didn't you? Oh, the fast food company came to your door and shoveled it down your throat, did they? Well, maybe it'd be a different story if they did. Mr. Spurlock -- the director and "star" doesn't claim to support those suing McDonald's, which makes sense. Not suing McDonald's. Suing McDonald's isn't going to accomlish anything, but it will make a lot of money for lawyers. There are definitely some valid parts to people's arguments -- McDonald's markets excessively to children, perhaps, and it's a well-known fact that the PlayPlace is a tool of Satan. Sure, it looks fun, but after 20 minutes of sliding around on greasy plastic that a thousand other asses have slid on, it gets old. At first, I agreed with the judge who threw the case out; your nutrition is your responsibility, not some faceless corporation's. They're just in it to make money, and selling you meals with a lot of fat, sugar, and salt in them just happens to be a good way of doing business. On the other side, of course, is the cost to ME. Why the hell should I have to pay for John Q. Fatass, who's eaten so much McDonald's that he can't walk anymore and can't go to work? Ohhhh, let's give the fatass a welfare check -- that will make all the problems go away. No it won't; all it'll do is make me have to pay more taxes to support welfare. I'd like to keep just a little of my money -- thanks, Uncle Sam. All I'm saying is that, while your nutrition is your responsibility, as soon as it starts to affect my wallet, I get angry. Let's get with the program, people. Maybe if you're eating at McDonald's every day you should seriously consider not being a dumbass. Get your fat, disgusting, jelly-shaped body to the gym, or, if you're too embarassed, get yourself a goddamn Bowflex.

Whew, sorry for the rant. No, scratch that. I'm not sorry at all. I just dislike living here and putting up with shit like stupid and fat people. I'm leaving America.

Alright, bottom line: whose fault is it? Is it McDonald's fault, should we sue them so the people that are put on welfare because of them don't cost me an arm and a leg? Is it the obese people's fault, for being so ridiculously stupid to eat so much and not exercise? Or is it somehow, miraculously, all my fault? Lemme know.

hmm well I'd say it's the stupid fat people's problems and that McDonald's should be able to sue each and every person who filed a law suit claiming McDonalds made me fat. McDonald's should own the rights to all of these fat bastards and they should chop all of them up, repackage all the meat and send it over to the starving children in Africa. Not only would this remove a large portion of the lowerer IQ retarded fat people, but it might give a kid a chance to have enough food to survive and maybe come up with a really fucking good idea about how we could all live on earth in peace. Then again maybe all those fatass retards ate all the kid's food already and he died and now we're stuck with this demented system of logic known as American Justice.

I think that it is mostly the people who eat at McDonald's fault. I mean seriously, you have to know that the food is bad for you. On the other hand, McDonalds food is CHEAP. Which means that the poor who cannot afford quality foods run into McDonald's for cheap food. That is partily the reason for this "obeasity" crisis. The exact reverse of the medieval ages when the rich were fat and the poor thin. The rich can afford to buy healthy foods while the poor cannot always do so. In that sense you can make a case that McDonald's is evil for serving crappy food to those people (because it is the only thing that they can afford).

But in the end, if the person is wealthy or has money (middle class etc.) and chooses to go eat at McDonalds when they have an alternative, have no excuse. It is their own fault. Get over it. I stopped eating McDonalds a long time ago. It is the worst food on the planet. Burger King and Wendy's although a little better (maybe not) have also been scratched from my places that I would eat.

The only way that I could see that you could blame McDonald's is their marketing practices (towards children) and making the crappy food that poor people buy because they have no alternative. Not caring for the poor as usual.

    Use you heads people!

This is the same person who just posted.

I guess the case could be made that if McDonald's intentionally made their food addictive and loaded it with sugars, fats etc. to make their food addicting then they can be held responsible for that.

But personal responsibility has to come in at some point.

No other alternative, what are you stupid? If you think that by some means McDonalds is the only thing they can afford or that it is the cheapest you really need to go out and look around.

I ate mcdonalds for lunch. mcflurry and fries. yum. no complaints here. BUT, if i had ordered and eaten 20 of each, then of course it would be mcdonald's fault if i got sick and fat. *nods* it's not like i should be responsible for my own actions or anything... psh. who came up with *that* idea?

PS - never bring anything of value into the kiddie ball area. someone lost something expensive in there once... ring or watch or something? beware.

No, I mean that is one of the cheapest foods around and therefore a place where the poor can eat regularly. Of course there are other cheap places. Or let me rephrase that, it is a place that the poor can regularly afford to attend. (Rather than go to a five-star resutraunt or by groceries every week).
